Heartfelt Call for Change Following Racially Charged Incident in Downtown Reno

May 05, 2025 - 09:29 AM - 51views
On Saturday, April 3rd, at approximately 1:30 PM, the dedicated team behind the film "Wrongly Convicted" faced a distressing and unnecessary confrontation during their shoot at the courthouse on One Sierra Street, downtown Reno. Directed by Pearl Johnson, the film is being produced as a fundraising effort on behalf of the nonprofit organization “Choices for Freedom,” founded by Nate Williams.
This organization is committed to supporting men and women transitioning out of prison, a cause that resonates deeply with the project's mission.
While filming their final scene, the crew unexpectedly encountered a man and woman. The man, identified as 27-year-old Blue Jansma, challenged their right to be there, citing personal ownership of the community space. This encounter was fueled by a tragic misunderstanding, as Jansma reportedly believed the scene to be a Black Lives Matter protest due to the signs used, triggering an unwarranted response driven by prejudice.
In an alarming escalation, Jansma returned with a firearm and threatened the crew, prompting them to contact 911. Reno Police officers responded within 15 minutes, managing the situation with exceptional professionalism and empathy. Jansma was arrested and now faces multiple charges, including assault with a deadly weapon.
The Reno Police Department, along with the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, SWAT, and other special units, ensured the area was promptly secured, allowing streets to reopen while the investigation continues. This incident underlines the urgent need for understanding and racial harmony.
Throughout the ordeal, Faces of Success Radio and News provided vital live updates, ensuring the public remained informed throughout this distressing event.
We implore anyone with additional information to reach out and assist by contacting Reno Police at (775) 334-2677 or Secret Witness at (775) 322-4900, or visit secretwitness.com.
This incident highlights the critical need for communities to unite against racism and support inclusivity. It is a powerful reminder that racism must end, and together we can pave the way towards a just and equitable society.
As we process this incident, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to the community, reaffirming our commitment to “Choices for Freedom” and the positive changes it aims to bring about.
